One resort I would love to stay in is The Grand Floridian Resort and Spa at Walt Disney World. While we have walked through the lobby and around the grounds before, we have never stayed at this resort. Luckily, my friend Mike from My Dreams of Disney has had the privilege of staying here and was willing to share his thoughts with all of us! Thank you Mike and Welcome to A Disney Mom’s Thoughts!
Hello my friends, my name is Mike Ellis, and my good friend Beth has asked me to write a post for you about the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, the signature resort for Walt Disney World Resort. It is my pleasure to do so, and I hope you enjoy my post as much as I did in writing it for you!
In February of 2013, I became a part-time travel agent for Pixie Vacations. I had been considering delving into this side of Disney Planning, because I love to help my friends with their vacations, so when I was selected to become a Pixie, I was extremely excited. To top it off, Pixie was having an agent get together in July of that year, and the Grand Floridian was one of the places that we could book for travel for that!
My wife and I have long wanted to stay at the Grand Floridian when we visit, but we always thought that we wouldn’t be able to do so until we got to a special anniversary, something like the 25th or something like that. So, to be able to visit before we even celebrated our 12th anniversary was a big deal for us.
The Grand Floridian certainly lives up to it’s billing! The lobby is absolutely incredible — so ornate, so finely and richly detailed, it almost takes your breath away. As you can see from this photo, on the 2nd floor there is a band setup that plays music for you while you relax and enjoy the sites and sounds around you.
This shot is of the chandelier that is located in the lobby. I like the dome at the top, it is really neat. You have to see it for yourself — this picture doesn’t do it justice.
The rooms are nicely appointed, with two queen beds in most configurations. They do have options for a king size bed, so there are different configurations available depending on your need. Additionally, they have a nice, comfortable chair and ottoman available that I enjoyed relaxing in. This room did not have a balcony, but the windows did give a nice view of the resort.
The bathroom area featured two sinks (as you can tell by my daughter Sophie modeling them for you), and a separate room for the toilet and bathtub/shower. Interestingly enough, our room had a phone mounted in the bathroom by the toilet — I never felt the need to use the phone while in there, though…
Our visit to the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa was one that we truly enjoyed, and would love to stay at again. Some other amenities that we were able to enjoy were the location of a great counter service restaurant right by our building, and of course, the table service options are incredible and worth exploring. Disney has also created a section of the Grand Floridian that is for the Disney Vacation Club, so there are more room options available than when I visited the resort. For more information about the resort, click here to go to the Walt Disney World resort page.
Thank you to my friend Beth for giving me the opportunity to share with you my thoughts on this special resort. It has been my pleasure, and thank you for taking the time to stop by and read the post! My question to you is simple: Have you ever stayed at the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, and what did you think of it?
