Many moms would spend this time taking care of themselves by going shopping for a new purse or shoes, going to the spa for a facial, a massage or a manicure. Others just want a quiet afternoon on the sunporch with their favorite tea and a good book. Not me.
If I was going to reward myself for the hard work I do as a mom, wife, youth minister, etc… I would find a good desk complete with my laptop, my iPad, my calendar, a notepad and a few Disney books! I want to be rewarded with uninterrupted time to research Disney and write new blog posts!
Most nights after the boys are in bed, I’m on the couch with my laptop. I’m online looking at Disney sites, reading and commenting on other Disney blogs, chatting with other Disney friends through social media or reading Disney books. If I have a trip to Walt Disney World planned, I’m thinking about that trip. If I don’t have a trip planned, I’m trying to figure out when I can get back to Disney!
When holidays roll around, I usually ask my family to give me Disney Gift cards. When I have extra cash at the end of the month, I buy Disney Gift cards. When I learned about Raise.com the first thing I thought of was DISNEY GIFT CARDS! This could be a new way for me to get additional cards!
Raise was launched on a quiet evening on February 2nd, 2013 as a marketplace devoted exclusively to buying and selling gift cards. The platform empowers consumers to increase their purchase power so they can give themselves a raise, and the name is a positive, uplifting way to refer to savings. Shoppers can buy discounted gift cards to save on everyday essentials, and sellers can earn cash for otherwise unwanted gift cards to spend when, where and how they choose. (History of Raise.com)
So, after all that… how would I reward myself or give myself a raise for all the hard work I do? I’d go to Walt Disney World, or buy a Disney Gift Card for my next vacation! 🙂
While I have not been so lucky in years past, I will pass on a tip that may help you save for a Disney trip! When you are at Walt Disney World, sign up for the Disney Vacation Club (DVC) presentation. If you choose to attend the roughly 3 hour presentation, you will learn about DVC, meet with a sales associate, see the DVC property, and gain information about the pricing- plus transportation to and from the presentation is provided. You’ll also get free ice cream at the end. While the ice cream is a good treat, there have been other incentives in the past to get people to the presentation. Those incentives have included free Fastpasses to attractions or Disney Gift Cards!
When you arrive at your WDW resort, ask the DVC cast member if there are any incentives for seeing the presentation and taking the tour. You never know… you may earn a $100 Disney Gift Card to be used on the current trip or to be saved for a future trip!
One way I like to try to save money for Disney trips is by entering Disney blog giveaways for Disney gift cards! If you have the time you can find all sorts of giveaways on different blogs for these gift cards. You can try a google search for “Disney Gift Card Giveaway” or search twitter for #disneygiftcard. If you have a “blogroll” on your web site, you can see when a friend posts about giveaways. Chip and Co is another resource that often has Disney giveaways that may consist of a gift card. There are also incentives from many travel agents that include gift cards.
In addition to entering to win gift cards, you can enter to win a vacation to a Disney destination! While I haven’t won yet, I keep entering! My friend Bruce has a great web site where he keeps a running list of current Disney Contests and Sweepstakes. Pixie Vacations is another source that has frequent contests and giveaways.
So, best of luck to all of you who are trying to win a Disney Gift Card or a Disney Vacation! 🙂
Last week I shared the way our family uses Disney Gift Cards to help pay for Disney vacations. To build on that idea, consider applying for a Target Red Card. With a Target Red Card, you can save 5% on all Target purchases.. including Disney Gift Cards!

While you’re at it, consider buying some of your travel necessities at Target with your Red Card to save 5% and use some coupons to save even more! With your savings, consider buying another Disney Gift Card! 😉

In my hometown it seems like every store that sells gift cards has the Disney Gift Cards! I have found these at Walgreens, Target, Kroger, Publix, and Lowes. I’m sure there are other places, I just can’t think of them now!
One way we save for Disney vacations is to ask for Disney Gift Card as gifts. Both sets of grandparents give these cards for Christmas and birthdays. At the end of the month, if I have extra cash, I’ll buy a gift card so I won’t spend that money on something else. If I earn extra money somehow, I turn right around and buy a gift card.
We also buy the boys gift cards for Easter baskets, stockings and Valentine’s day. I try to buy different cards for each boy so we can tell them apart. Then when we get to the parks, they know how much money they have to spend on souvenirs. There are several different styles to choose from for girls and boys.
