The “Enchanted Tiki Room” opened in 1963 in Disneyland as the first Audio-Animatronics attraction ever. In October of 1971, the Walt Disney World version, “Tropical Serenade” opened. In 1998 it changed to “Enchanted Tiki Room Under New Management” as seen in my photo, with hosts Iago and Zazu. In 2001, a small fire broke out in the attraction and it was forced to close. After a refurbishment, the attraction reopened in August of 2011 as “Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room.”
This 10 minute long show features over 300 singing birds, Tiki gods and flowers. Before you enter the theater, you are entertained with a preshow outside while you stand and wait. This preshow will help introduce you to the show you are about to see. Once inside, you’ll sit on a long backless bench with the birds and flowers overhead. The entire show takes place in the dark. The show features many fun songs that you will love to sing along with such as “The Tiki, Tiki, Tiki Room,” “Let’s All Sing Like the Birdies Sing” and “Hawaiian War Chant.”
- Guests in wheelchairs can stay in their own chair for this attraction. There is no need to transfer.
- This attraction is suitable for all guests. However, some small children may get scared in the dark or during the lightening scene. (consider bringing a small flashlight or glow stick to help your child on these dark attractions.)
- It’s air conditioned! When it’s hot outside, this is a great place to cool off and enjoy a bit of Walt Disney history!
