Archives for November 2011
Today I have the pleasure of sharing about The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World. This display of Christmas lights dates back to 1995 in Walt Disney World. Originally, the lights were on display at the Osborne family’s home in Arkansas. In 1986, Breezy Osborne, daughter of Jennings Osborne, requested lights on the outside of their home. Jennings obliged and put up over 1,000 lights. Each year Jennings added more lights and eventually bought the neighboring properties surrounding his house until the collection grew to over 3 million lights.
In 2004, the lights were moved to the New York Street Set due to the construction of the Lights! Motors! Action! Extreme Stunt Show which involved the demolition of Residential Street. This move included the addition of artificial snow each night. In 2006, they added dimmer relay circuits and control switches to synchronize the lights to music. Below is a video I took during our 2006 trip.
The display is made up of over 10 miles of lighting connected by 30 miles of extension cords. The extension cords and lights are held together using two million ties. Starting in September, it takes 20,000 man-hours to install the display for the holiday season. The lights are turned on at dusk each night, starting in mid-November and running into the first week of January.
This light display has been voted as one of the top 10 Christmas Lights in the USA several times. If you are going to be at Walt Disney World in November or December, I think it is a MUST to schedule a time to view these lights. I have seen them many times over the years starting in 1999. It’s been a joy to see them progress into the display they are today! You can read an interview with Jennings from 2002 on the All Ears web site.
Jennings died this past July due to heart issues at the age of 67. I’m pretty confident that Disney will do an awesome job each year honoring the life and legacy of Mr. Osborne! Thanks for your contribution to the Most Magical Place on Earth!
Thank you for joining me today. Your next stop on the Magical Blogorail Loop is Walt Disney World: Not Just for Kids.
Here is the map of our Magical Blogorail should you happen to have to make a stop along the way and want to reboard:

- Have you ever been left behind or forgotten about?
- Have you ever tried really hard to fit in with a group of people? What happened?
- Have you ever felt by yourself even though you were with a group of people?
Incredibles vs. the Omnidroid”
Frozone says, “Hurt then too.”
learned how to use their superpowers. Now they are ready to use their skills with the skills of the other superheroes to beat Syndrome and the
group these questions:
- How did each of these characters work with the others to defeat the Omnidroid:
- Mr. Incredible
- Mrs. Incredible (Elastigirl)
- What did each of the characters do to protect or save
- What did they risk?
- Which character suffered the most?
- What happened at the end when the superheroes worked together?

4:2–7 2 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. 3 Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.
Maybe you’ve felt that everyone else was blessed with amazing skills or
talents, while you got nothing, but that is not true.
God has given each of us a specific gift! You
have a special place in the body of Christ. We all have a specific
gift that God has given us to use so we can glorify Him. None of us have all the gifts we need to succeed; however, when we combine our gifts and
use them how God meant for them to be used, we can accomplish incredible things for Him!
do you think Christ taught us to carry each other’s burdens?
Ephesians 4:4. What is the “body” that Paul is referring to?
the Ephesians passage, what is the standard for our faith?
are we supposed to treat each other? Why?
are some of the different ways God calls people to serve?
do you think God calls different people to do different types of ministry?
- How did the superheroes show the concepts you
read about in Galatians and Ephesians?
- How did the Incredibles help
to carry one another’s burdens?
- How did the Incredibles prove that they were united?
- Think about a time when you
were a part of a group that was completely unified and you were all using your
God-given gifts in the right way. What happened?
- Describe a time when you
helped carry a loved one’s burden.
- What gift(s) has God given you?
- How can you combine your gifts with
another Christian’s gifts to accomplish something great for God?
It’s “V” week with Heidi! I thought I’d have trouble with this one, but I really didn’t. Enjoy my “V” photos from Walt Disney World. Did I forget any??

Deb has the cutest ideas and this one is no exception! She is hosting a Thanksgiving Meme where you choose a word associated with Thanksgiving. Then choose one word for each letter in your Thanksgiving word that is associated with Disney.
I chose the word TURKEY since I love eating turkey and dressing and seem to only get it at the end of November and end of December! I have chosen 6 things I’m thankful for at Walt Disney World with my family using the letters in turkey…
Here are a few videos I found on YouTube that may help you with your Thanksgiving festivities.
